Xmax or Nmax: which scooter for a month in Bali

The two most rented bikes on the island, side by side: comfort, fuel, luggage, price per day and per month, and who each one is for.

Two Yamahas make up more than half of the GTA Garage fleet: 37 Xmax 250 and 25 Nmax 155. They are asked for more than everything else combined, and the question "which one?" comes up in almost every chat. Here is the honest answer.

Nmax 155: the everyday scooter

Light, narrow, easy to park in Canggu traffic and on the back streets of Ubud. The 155 cc engine is enough for two people on the flat and for one on the hills. Fuel is cheap, the seat fits most riders, and there is room for a helmet under the seat. At Rp 172.000 a day or Rp 3.150.000 a month it is the most economical bike in the fleet after the ADV, with a deposit of Rp 2.000.000.

Xmax 250: the long-distance one

Bigger wheels, a windscreen, a wide seat and a 250 cc engine that does not strain on the climb to Kintamani. Two helmets fit under the seat. It is heavier and needs more space to park, but for a month of riding, long trips to Uluwatu or Amed, and two people on board, the Xmax is the bike most riders end up choosing. Rp 299.000 a day, Rp 5.400.000 a month, deposit Rp 3.000.000.

Whichever you pick, a month costs the price of eighteen days, helmets are included, and if the bike you wanted is taken on your dates the team offers the closest one now and a swap when yours frees up.
